Remote Application Materials Review

Constructive written feedback that strengthens clarity, organization, substance, and presentation while preserving the applicant’s authentic voice.

Eligible materials

  • Law school résumé, personal statement, statement of purpose or perspective, optional or background essay, addendum, school-specific essay, and scholarship essay when permitted.
  • Character-and-fitness explanations may be reviewed for clarity, but reviewers cannot provide a definitive disclosure or eligibility determination.

Preparing your packet

  • Include the exact application prompt, law school name when school-specific, word or page limit, application deadline, up to three questions, and your intended message.
  • Submit a readable draft in Word when possible. Accepted formats: PDF, DOC, DOCX, RTF, TXT, ODT. Up to six documents, each 8 MB or smaller.
  • Use a clear filename with your name and document type. Remove Social Security numbers, birth dates, financial account details, and unnecessary identifiers. Share only your own authorized materials and keep original copies.
  • Conference attendance and a signed participant acknowledgment are required before materials can be uploaded or assigned.

What reviewers may do

  • Identify strengths and underdeveloped sections; comment on organization, reflection, repetition, clarity, tone, grammar, usage, and formatting.
  • Ask questions that help the applicant revise and flag school-specific requirements to verify.

What reviewers must not do

  • Write or substantially rewrite materials, invent experiences or achievements, make decisions for the applicant, or guarantee admissions or scholarships.
  • Recommend concealing requested information, certify compliance with every school’s rules, or give definitive character-and-fitness determinations.

Order of review

  • Prompt compliance; accuracy and authenticity; purpose and central message; substance and reflection; organization; clarity and tone; sentence-level writing; grammar, punctuation, and formatting.
  • For résumés: professional format, section order, reverse chronology, action verbs, contribution and impact, appropriate quantification, consistency, school instructions, relevance, and proofreading.
  • For addenda: keep comments brief, factual, responsive, accountable, professional, and focused on necessary context, resolution, and growth.

Written feedback summary

  • Identify the document and prompt reviewed. Note strengths, priority revisions, specific questions, school requirements to verify, and the student’s next steps.
  • Return annotated documents and a written summary through My Volunteer Dashboard. Save drafts privately until ready, then select Return feedback to student.
  • The student remains responsible for every final statement, school-specific rules, outside-assistance policies, and timely submission.

Assignments and conflicts

  • Organizers verify attendance and assign students to approved materials reviewers. Only your assigned students appear in My Volunteer Dashboard.
  • Accept the assignment before beginning. If you know the applicant and cannot remain objective, or have another conflict, report it and request reassignment.
  • Assignments will go out no later than Monday, November 16, 2026. All materials reviews should be completed within three weeks, by Monday, December 7, 2026.

Private handling and closeout

  • Use materials only for the assigned review. Do not share them with unauthorized individuals or upload them to AI platforms or third-party services without express authorization.
  • Download only what you need, store copies securely, and return feedback through the Hub. After returning the review, delete downloaded copies and record your confirmation.
  • Organizers can permanently delete uploaded documents and feedback files after the review is returned. The written summary and signed acknowledgment remain on record. Students should download returned files before organizer deletion.
